Flowers for your home, special occasions and every day.

A Tree in the House is a stunning ode – in words and pictures - to flower arranging. Part guide for the aspiring home florist, part celebration of a rural life in sync with nature, it celebrates the joy that flowers bring to our every day lives.

Author Annabelle Hickson believes playing and working with flowers can help you become a better observer of the natural world. Anything that helps you focus on what is beautiful and interesting in your daily life, when so much can feel repetitive and mundane and ordinary, is worthy of celebration. Reverence, even.

Annabelle celebrates the simple, natural beauty that flowers bring to the home, with a focus on foraged and locally and seasonally grown plants.

She provides ideas and instructions for flower installations and arrangements, covering beautiful, seasonal bouquets, flowers for friends and special occasions, as well as table and overhead installations, showing readers that flower arranging, even that of the most magnificent, enormous kind, is accessible, affordable and open to anyone who cares to give it a go.

Interspersed throughout are gorgeous snapshots of Annabelle’s picturesque rural life making A Tree in the House as much an aspirational window into rural life, as an inspirational guide to creating beautiful, simple arrangements.

Annabelle Hickson is a writer who takes photos, often of flowers. She lives on a pecan farm with her husband Ed and three children in the Dumaresq Valley on the NSW-Queensland border, Australia.

She writes a regular column for Country Style magazine and works as a freelance writer and photographer. She also has a wonderful podcast with her friend Gillian Bell called Dispatch To A Friend.

She is passionate about reading, gardening, growing roses, cooking and celebrator of the beauty in life.

And she is on a mission to show readers that flower arranging, even that of the most magnificent, enormous kind, is accessible, affordable and open to anyone who cares to give it a go.
