Vintage Indian Kantha Quilt | Sage & Amethyst

Stunning genuine vintage Indian Kantha quilts. Each quilt is handmade and stitched, originally used in households as blankets for warmth at night. The age of each Kantha varies but they are most likely to be 40+ years old.

The word 'kantha' refers to a type of running stitch embroidery, which was traditionally used to stitch several layers of cotton together to make a quilt or bedcover or cushion. Often the layers were repurposed saris. Vintage kanthas are beautifully soft and often have small imperfections or patches where they have been mended. Each one is unique and this only adds to their charm.

Handmade textiles may have minor inconsistencies in colour or weave or stitching. No two products are exactly the same. This is part and parcel of their unique charm.
