Our cafe, Squirrel is literally through the wall from Small Acorns. And when both the store and the cafe are open we slide open the wall so that the spaces are adjoining.
From the store side of the wall, we absolutely love the hubbub of the cafe, the sound of the coffee machine, and all the meeting and greeting that goes on. From the cafe side, you get a glimpse into the store (and all it's temptations) while you enjoy your coffee.
We like to think that Squirrel offers a warm and inviting haven complemented by a menu that showcases the best of Wellington’s producers and suppliers. Housed in a century-old space that was once part of the bustling Wellington vegetable markets, the café boasts a fresh, bright space that blends the contemporary with the rustic.
‘Simple, done well’ is our motto, and we hope that our carefully curated menu reflects this. The café works hand-in-hand with some of Wellington’s most loved household names, keeping the selection of food on offer fresh, seasonal and irresistible. Indulge in our daily toasts and sandwiches, crafted on-site using Shelly Bay Baker sourdough bread, try our award-winning avocado & mozzarella toast, or treat yourself to everyone's favourite - a Maude's Chicken sandwich (IYKYK). Our cabinet is further complemented by an enticing array of tarts, filos, soups and sweet treats to satisfy every craving.
